In this episode Nog returns to the station after spending time at a Starfleet Medical facility.  In the episode "The Siege of AR-558" Ensign Nog lost his leg while in battle with the Jem'Hadar.  Despite all medical reason, Ensign Nog felt pain when using his artificial leg, however the doctors determined that the pain was mental.  Nog was forced to limp with a cane to avoid the pain.  But his pain was much deeper.  After the crew of the station tried to reach out to Nog, he ran away and hid in the holosuite program of Vic Fontaine.  Over time, Nog became so involved in the program that he forgot about real life.  In the end, Nog revealed to Vic Fontaine that the pain in his leg was the personification of the fear he had for his life.  Nog had seen many die and he feared that if he could loose his leg, then he could just as easily die.  After letting this out, Nog found the courage to leave the holosuite and return to duty.  As reward for Vic's help, Nog talked Quark into leaving Vic Fontaine's program running 26 hours a day, because thoughout the course of his stay in the holosuite, Nog discovered that Vic Fontaine had no life.  But now, with the holosuite on all day, Vic had a life.
This episode was slow and times; however it was a very important as far as Nog's character development was concerned.  I found this episode to be quite enjoyable and believe it is one of those episodes that Trekkies should see at least once.Review by: Andrew Luby
