    Nog was born in 2353 on the planet Ferenginar.  Nog moved to Deep Space Nine with his father Rom, who began work at his brother's bar.  While working for Quark, Rom became an excellent engineer and would later become an engineer on Deep Space Nine.  Nog befriended the captain's son Jake Sisko, and at times both Quark and Captain Sisko had difficulties in their son's friendship, but that never stopped them.  In 2371, Nog became the first Ferengi to attend Starfleet Academy.  He graduated and was assigned to Deep Space Nine.
